AIA’s Urban Design group is joining UC’s Niehoff Urban Studio for a real design charrette in the street during the Second Sunday fair this Sunday, June 12th from 10 am to 5 pm, and YOU are invited!
This Design exercise is aimed at creating a designed place at 13th and Main (including the ROW and the church parking lot) that can frame the historic St Mary’s Church, and create a punctuation point along Main. Posted here is the flyer for the charrette – an unusual format – outside 10-5PM under a tent during the Main Street Second Sunday Street Festival.
AIA will have 4-5 work tables set up under the tent for designers. Stakeholders and the public will come and go during the day. At 5pm, AIA designers will adjourn to a meeting space to review input and design ideas….and to start planning!
Are you an urban designer?
AIA is looking for about a dozen designers who could contribute 1-2 hours each at the tables. Each designer could diagram/design a concept and then discuss with visitors as they come through the tent. We hope to make this a fun interactive process in a gaming approach, collage materials, a big foamcore model and props provided by our students for your use. All ideas welcome. Low commitment, maximum fun, kids welcome!
