If you are a member of AIA in Ohio, you know the name Bruce Sekanick, FAIA. His leadership roles span nearly 30 years, from a small, local component (AIA Eastern Ohio – 65 members) to AIA Ohio (2,100 members) to serving on the AIA National Board of Directors, the AIA Strategic Council and as the AIA National Secretary. Bruce has enthusiastically embraced all opportunities to participate and positively contribute to the architectural profession as a leader within the AIA.
“Bruce has been a tireless advocate for the AIA institution and its members, whether at the Chapter level, the State level or at the National level,” said longtime colleague Michael Mauch, AIA, of RWA Architects and the chapter’s AIA Ohio Representative.
Bruce has uniquely served all levels of the organization and his work, dedication and commitment to the organization continue to have a substantial impact on the AIA and its members. As many might imagine, service at the national level is similar in many ways to service at AIA Ohio and local organizations. Board meetings, committee meetings and events or programs take control of your calendar throughout the year.
But while the work at the state and local level is principally between you and other members of the board, the work at AIA national, is in large part, about interacting with the AIA Senior Leadership Team and individual members. While each board member may be focusing on the same issue, he/she is looking at these issues from many different angles. This somewhat different perspective has provided Bruce the opportunity to better understand not only the needs of the organization nationwide, but also the needs of our local components.
“Bruce is a voice as well as a great listener of young professionals everywhere encouraging their advancement in the profession,” added Mauch.
While as AIA President his energy and service will focus on the issues affecting the entire AIA family, it is his dedication to the members of Ohio that drives his passion to serve.
The Cincinnati Chapter of AIA enthusiastically supports Bruce Sekanick, FAIA, for 2020 First Vice President/President-elect and the 2021 President of the Institute. We hope you will, as well.
