Canstruction® is a joint program sponsored by AIA Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Chapter of the Society for Design Administration (SDA) to assist the underprivileged of our society and to raise awareness of architecture in our community.
Each year architectural firms from the greater Cincinnati area are invited to use their creativity to design sculptures out of canned food for a public exhibition. These sculptures are displayed at a public exhibition, and awards are given to the participants in five different categories.
At the end of the exhibition, the food is given to the Free Store for distribution to those in need. During the first year of this program, AIA Cincinnati and SDA collected over 13,000 cans or boxes of food for the Free Store, and a member firm won a national award for best design.
