AIA Cincinnati is an AIA Continuing Education Provider (No. A088). The Chapter's Program Committee selects topics that are designed to meet the professional and licensing needs of its members. AIA Cincinnati welcomes non-members and the public to attend any Chapter event. Many premier Component Partners are invited to participate in our continuing education programming by either providing content and/or speakers.
Registered members of AIA are required to acquire 18 hours of continuing education per year to maintain their membership in the AIA. Eight of the 18 hours must be health, safety and welfare (HSW). At the 2008 National Convention in Boston, delegates voted and approved that effective in 2009 4 hours of the required 8 hours of HSW must be in sustainability. For more details on AIA continuing education requirements go to: www.aia.org/education/ces/AIAS077015.
Effective January 1, 2006, all Ohio registered architects are required to earn Continuing Education in order to renew their license. The first two year renewal period affected started on January 1, 2006 and ends on December 31, 2007. Twenty-four contact hours are required every two year renewal period. Sixteen of the hours must be in the areas of health, safety, and welfare. For the State of Ohio Architect licensing requirements go to: http://www.arc.ohio.gov/conted.stm.
We encourage Emerging Professionals to participate in the chapter's continuing education events and programs. Specific to their needs of licensure, the Chapter's ARE/IDP Committee offers ARE seminars on uneven years. The next series will be provided in 2009. For additional information contact ARE/IDP Coordinator Crystal Montgomery, Assoc. AIA at CMontgomeryarchitect@gmail.com.
Event Schedule: The Program Committee has set aside the second Thursday of the month for any scheduled Technical Lunch Programs. Evening programs are held on the third Tuesday of the month in accordance with the Chapter Bylaws. Location of events will vary. Upcoming events are posted on the website calendar.
Instituted in 2007, Procrastinator's University (PU) is a two-day intense continuing education opportunity. We have found that some members prefer to streamline their continuing education efforts. You may want to consider this alternative course study. It lends itself to great networking opportunities and exposure to national keynote speakers. PU information is posted on the website calendar.
Registration for events may be made on-line, emailed or faxed. AIA Cincinnati accepts all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, and American Express) with the exception of Discover.
The AIA Ohio convention rotates between the seven local components throughout the state.
